Short Term Medical Insurance

Filed under: Short Term Medical Insurance — <ADMINNICENAME> @ 11:39 am

Short term medical insurance, policies designed exactly for people in your situation. They’re perfect for graduating students or those who lose a job and can’t afford COBRA coverage provided by their former employer.

Short term medical insurance is an inexpensive way to protect from unexpected health care expenses that would probably bankrupt most people. One of the benefits of short-term health insurance is that the application process is somewhat more straightforward.

Short-term policies cover hospitalization and surgeries as well as doctor’s visits and other professional services. But the real benefit knows that in case of extraordinary medical problems, coverage is available.

There are many different types of people for whom short term insurance is ideal:

• People between jobs.
• People laid-off from work.
• People graduating from college.
• Students who are no longer eligible under their parents’ health insurance.
• People waiting for their own Group Insurance eligibility.
• The coverage’s of short term medical insurance are comparable to those of major medical plan.

Your requirement of coverage may be more than what the duration allows.
This coverage is usually priced at less than 1/2 of the cost of regular medical insurance.  The premium price is based on age, sex and location so actual savings will vary.
Short term medical insurance plans will not cover existing medical conditions.

While the exact definition depends on your circumstances and on state laws, what this means is that if you have been diagnosed in the last three to five years or have been receiving treatment for a condition, it will be a pre-existing condition and you will not get coverage for it under your short term plan. Therefore you do not have a right to automatically renew. If your health status changes (i.e. diagnosed with cancer) your short term carrier may opt not to renew your coverage.
